About Colorado-Summer-Camps.com
Who We Are

Hi, I'm Jay, the founder and publisher of Colorado-Summer-Camps.com. This site was born from my steadfast belief in the value of a quality camp experience, as well as my desire to help families find their ideal Colorado summer camp.

It has been my privilege to also serve the larger camp community on the Board of the American Camp Association (ACA), Rocky Mountain Section for many years, including four years as President. More recently, I shifted gears and spent several years working with adjudicated youth, helping young people learn to make healthy choices and forge a positive life path. Outdoor experiences were an integral part of our rehabilitation program.

With more than 40 years of expertise providing experiential learning and adventure programs to youth and young adults, I now focus my time promoting and improving access to the camp experience in Colorado. In addition to our online family resource guide Colorado-Summer-Camps.com, I work with individual families to discuss program options and help parents find the best fit for their children. Our leadership and development team includes camp professionals, educators and outdoor enthusiasts who share a passion for the camp experience, and whose primary focus is fundraising and development for our parent organization VOYAGES, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides financial assistance to low-income families who would otherwise be unable to experience camp. We look forward to continuing to support the camp movement in Colorado, bringing families and their children together with some of the best camps anywhere in the world.

Personally, I know of no greater reward than the opportunity to make a positive and lasting impact on a young person’s life. Camp is a place where kids can “come of age”, benefiting from experiences in nature that serve as a catalyst for growth. With supportive leadership, camp is a place where kids can develop essential life-skills, forge relationships built on trust and mutual respect, and work together toward common goals with new friends. It is a place where kids can feel safe being themselves and accepted for who they are. And hopefully, a place where young people learn to be responsible stewards of the environment. Camp can be, and should be, an integral and essential part of a child’s education.

I have been involved leading youth in various capacities virtually my entire life. I grew up attending my family's summer camp at Bear Pole Ranch, high in the Colorado Rockies. I developed a passion for outdoor education and experiential learning at a young age. Camp was my life! I formed many of my most significant relationships at camp, and remain connected with many of those people still today. As a young adult I returned to support my parents as their Co-Director, and later developed Poulter Colorado Camps. Both were ACA accredited.
